Healthy Cooking |
Healthy cooking and following a
healthy eating plan can reduce the
affects of chronic diseases such as heart disease.
Try these healthy cooking tips:
- Go easy on fat, sugar, and salt
in preparing foods. For example, make Oven Crispy Chicken
instead of fried chicken or make Baked Cod with Cheese instead
of fried fish. You don’t have to leave out all the fat, sugar,
or salt - just limit the amount you use.
- Flavor foods with herbs,
spices, and other lowfat seasonings instead of using rich sauces
and gravy.
- Remove skin from poultry before
cooking to lower the fat content.
- Cook ahead and
freeze portions to have healthy and easy meals on hand for
days when you do not feel like cooking.
- Keep frozen or
canned vegetables, beans, and fruits on hand for quick and
healthy additions to meals. Rinse canned veggies and beans under
cold running water to lower their salt content.
- If you use
canned fruit choose fruit canned in juice or light syrup.
